Congratulations! Having a business in Sunrise MarketPlace gives you an advantage. The BID was formed in 1999 to create a unified destination of the hundreds of stores, businesses and restaurants in this 10-block area. It's been a win-win for the businesses and consumers both! Over the years the streets have been animated with vibrant banners, distinctive signage and festive holiday decor. SMP worked with the city to make median improvements including the addition of 80 palm trees and colorful flowers. To generate excitement and create awareness, the BID has hosted many events over the years from Dogoween to Fourth of July Fireworks and Coats for Kids. Your businesses benefit from a regular schedule of advertising, including radio, direct mail and print (see below for marketing materials). Your business is also promoted on our web site and popular map guides. Additionally, we tout your achievements to the media and we help advertise your events, grand openings and promotions.
Other services we provide help maintain the integrity of the public areas as well as ensure the safety and comfort of your customers. By working closely with the City, we help to keep the District well-groomed and safe for visitors. Potholes, graffiti and other public area maintenance issues are reported. We work with the city to keep commute traffic flowing during the week and to ensure maximum flow into business areas on holidays and weekends. We are your advocates at City Hall protecting and promoting business interests and property owner development.
If you are included in our email chain you receive important alerts on road work, traffic and police activities such as DUI Checkpoints and other timely information. SMP also hosts seminars with the police department and others to provide you relevant information you need to manage your business effectively.

How do I know if my business in the BID?

What does it cost to be in the District?
Sunrise MarketPlace is a property tax assessment district- property owners receive an invoice with their property tax bill. Some pass this cost onto their tenants. The assessment is 5 cents per square foot for land that is zoned retail and 2.5 cents for land that is zoned office/professional.
Who runs the District and decides how to spend the money?
The BID is operated by a nonprofit company, Sunrise MarketPlace, Inc. which maintains an office in Sunrise Mall. Decisions are made by the Board of Directors, Committees and executed by staff members.
How can I participate in these decisions?
You can become a member of one of our committees (Marketing or Economic Development) and if you qualify for a board seat you may be appointed to the board.
