
Sunrise MarketPlace Inc., a nonprofit organization comprised of area property and business owners, is responsible for managing the District. Our 15-member board is a representation of these property and business owners led by Chair Don Tollefson,owner of Batteries Plus. The board oversees a working budget of nearly $700,000, funded by a tax assessment paid by our businesses.
District services and programs focus on creating a cohesive, distinct, and exciting destination for Citrus Heights. These include physical improvements, advertising, public relations, special events and promotions.
The board and Executive Director Kathilynn Carpenter work closely with the city of Citrus Heights on physical improvements including streetscape beautification, improving access into the area, and enhancing mobility between businesses within the District. Because of the business improvement district, the City of Citrus Heights has been able to generate over $2.3 million in funding for improvements including attractive landmark gateways, colorful median signs, median and landscaping improvements and wayfinding signage.
